Midnight Sun in June and July
In June the sun never fully sets in and the nights are bright as day. According to Icelandic folklore, cows gain the powers of speech, seals become human, and it is healthy to roll naked in the dew-covered grass on the brightest night of the year. The tours are for beginners and experienced riders.
Short riding tour: 1-1.5 riding hours; we start at Sauðanes around 22:00 and ride to Dalabæ where we watch the sunset and enjoy the tranquility, the horses, and nature.
Longer riding tour; 3 riding hours; From Sauðanes we head at 22:00 towards Skriður where we enjoy a spectacular view. Back we ride along the highway down to Dalabæjarmýrar off to Sauðanes.
4-6 riding hours for experienced riders
From Sauðanes we head to Dalabæ along Almenningar to Tjarnardalir where we allow the horses to swim. You can stay on horseback if you like. At Skriðnavellir we have a picnic. The riding path is adventurous and the fauna is unique. It’s necessary to take along dry clothes if you choose to swim with the horse.
4 riding hours for beginners and experienced riders
From Sauðanes we head to Dalabæ and from there, Dalabæjarleið along Lambadal. In Lambadalur you have an amazing view to Grímsey (polar circle) and Skagi. The surroundings are exceptional, rocky mountains and breathtaking nature. Those afraid of height might experience that.
6-8 riding hours for experienced riders
From Sauðanes we ride along Mánardalur to Mánáskálar. On the way, you experience breathtaking and untouched landscape. We ride along old sheep paths to Tjarnárdalir and witness indescribable landscape and fauna on the way to Almenningsnöf.
5-6 riding hours for beginners and experienced riders
From Sauðanes we ride along Dalabæjarleið the old postal path up to the Mountain Snókur. On the way the view over to Siglufjörður all the way to Siglunes is breathtaking.
6-7 riding hours for beginners and experienced riders
We ride from Sauðanes behind the Mountain Snók to Siglufjarðarpath and down to Siglufjörður. Breathtaking view to Grímsey and Skagi.
6-7 riding hours for experienced riders
We ride along the east cost of Siglufjörður to Selvík lighthouse. From there we continue along Kálsdal and Kálfstaðarlake. You can swim in the lake on the horse if you like. We ride over Kálfsskarð down to Nesdalur towards Reyará. From Reyðará we ride on to Siglunes.
